Everything "I Do" Need for a Destination Wedding
Wedding season is coming up, which can often mean stressful travel plans and never-ending packing lists. Don't worry, we've got it covered. Here are our best tips and tricks for packing for a wedding that will help get you to the venue feeling great and looking your very best.
1. Sewing kit
At the last wedding I attended, I was lucky enough to be part of the bridal party. Everything was going smoothly until the photo-shoot thirty minutes before the ceremony when the groomsmen decided to lift the bride up (which made for a very cute photo). Unfortunately for one of the groomsmen, this resulted in a large and noticeable rip in his tuxedo pants that clearly showed his boxers. At the same time I received a text from my Dad, still upstairs in his hotel room; "Do you have a safety pin? I accidentally packed only one cufflink."
Travel sewing kit to the rescue! If possible, remember to carry it around with you. You never know how quickly you might need it.

2. Learn how to tie a bow tie.
Tying a bowtie is somewhat of a lost art. When none of the groomsmen or the groom knows how to tie their bowties and YouTube videos just aren't cutting it, your bow tying skills will make you THE most popular person at the wedding. Just remember to pass your knowledge on!
3. Makeup + toiletry case
You'll want to look your best for photos, especially if you're in the wedding party. Even if you have a professional makeup artist booked, you should bring along your favourite cosmetics for touchups or as a plan B if something goes awry. You never know if the artist won't show or if you'll be unhappy with the look they give you!
A toiletry case that will keep you hyper-organized is handy so you aren't searching the depths of your bag for your toothpaste and lipstick.

4. Garment bag
Equally useful for suits or dresses, a good quality garment bag will save you from ruining your outfit en route to the wedding. It will protect your clothes much better than a simple plastic cover from the drycleaners and ensure that there are no funky smells or stains that appear mysteriously after exiting the plane, train, car or taxi.

5. Garment folder

Even if you're set on wearing one specific outfit, you never know when you might need a last-minute wardrobe change. Using a shirt folder to pack an extra shirt or pair of pants will come in handy if you spill some food a few minutes before the wedding. Your shirt (or pants) will be ready to go at a moment's notice!

6. Change of clothes for dancing
As a general rule, the more formal the wedding, the less comfortable the outfit. When the music starts and you want to let loose it can be a little difficult wearing a stuffy suit or form-fitting dress. Having a comfortable backup (but still wedding-appropriate!) outfit can be a real lifesaver - and don't forget to pack some flats!

Although it's generally best to keep the photo taking to a minimum during the ceremony and let the photographer handle it, you'll likely want to record parts of the day in order to share them with friends and family. And let's be honest, we know you'll be Snapchatting and Instagramming the whole thing. So the last thing you want is to run out of battery before the couple has their first dance. Portable phone chargers are a true lifesaver and are compact enough to fit in your clutch or suit pocket.

8. Shoe cubes and sacs

Shoes are notorious for being the most inconvenient item to pack. They take up an incredible amount of space, they can track dirt onto your clothes and you generally need at least two pairs per trip, three for a wedding. Enter the shoe cube or sac. You'll be able to pack shoes compactly and avoid ruining your wedding day outfit. Depending on the size, you can fit several pairs into one cube - flats, sneakers, dress shoes and stilettos will coexist in harmony!

9. Tylenol/cold meds/Band-Aids

Often the stress of travel can cause you to get sick at the most inopportune time. The last thing you want is to be stuffed up or have a headache and not be able to enjoy the festivities. Keep some Advil/Tylenol and cold medication on hand just in case. You never know when you or another guest will need it.
Don’t forget the Kleenex! Tears are always bound to fall at a wedding, so make sure you are prepared with a small packet always ready!
Other first aid items that can really come in handy are Band-Aids and blister dressings. Excessive walking and dancing are generally the perpetrators when it comes to blistered feet. Don't let that get in the way of you dancing the night away!
10. Umbrella
If any of part of the wedding day is held outside (photos, ceremony or reception), and it's likely at least one will be, you'll absolutely want to pack a portable travel umbrella in your bag. Don't let the rain ruin your beautiful hair, makeup and/or outfit! And you can find an assortment of umbrellas with beautiful prints and colours that you can coordinate with your attire. Plus you might even save the day if the bride doesn’t have one ready!

11. Stain remover
Red wine and chocolate are some of the worst offenders when it comes to stains and since those things go hand-in-hand with weddings, a stain remover like Tide to Go or Wine Off may come in very handy. Just remember to keep it on hand so you can fight that stain as quickly as possible before it sets in!

12. Curling iron/Blow dryer
Unless you’re in the bridal party, you’ll most likely be doing your own hair. And if you’re traveling to a country with a different electrical standard, the ability to switch between different voltage strengths will come in handy. Especially when you realize at the last second that your 120V hair straightener simply will not work in most countries outside of North America.

14. Jewelry pouch
A wedding is definitely one of those occasions when your jewelry can really make your outfit special. You won’t break out in a sweat dealing with a tangled chain or lost earring if you keep your necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings safe and organized in jewelry bag. You can even store Dad’s cufflinks for him.

They’re easy to fill and clean and won’t drip onto your precious wedding outfit. Even so, I’d still store them in a zip-lock bag to be sure. 15. Travel adapters and converters

If your destination wedding takes you to a country where the electrical standards are different than North America you will need adapter plugs if your appliances are dual voltage and a converter if they aren’t. They’re usually impossible to find locally and I’m sure you’ll want to have a fully charged phone for the wedding day. Make sure to check the voltage of your electronic devices and your destination's electrical requirements beforehand.
